Welcome to my blog — a collection of opinion-based articles drawn from nearly 15 years navigating the ever-shifting landscape of the media industry.

Let’s underline that word: opinion

Watching the experts do their thing while I relax and watch.
Watching the experts do their thing while I relax and watch.

Everything here is filtered through my own experiences, biases, triumphs, and fumbles. It’s just one person’s response to the evolving world of media and how I choose to react to it. From my love of dark, character-driven comedies, to the existential dread I once felt entering a newsroom — only to later realise it was one of the best training grounds imaginable.

You’ll find musings on the fine (and fiercely debated) line between videography and cinematography, coming to terms with the “death” of beloved childhood IP, and being okay with aging out of the target audience. I’ll write about AI, and perhaps ask myself how much of this blog is actually written by me (spoiler: this bit is). I’ll question whether I love something… or if I’m just good at it. And what it means when something just isn’t your thing.

I’ve been a mentee and a mentor, a trainee and a team leader. I’ve worked on independent film sets, in the creative black hole of newsroom deadlines, led editing teams, directed corporate and commercial content, and — my favorite — directed short films. While filmmaking is a collaboration at its core, it’s important to acknowledge the responsibility and vision that comes with being a director — and I don’t take that lightly.

I’ll share my thoughts on film festivals — the thrill of being selected, the joy of hearing your name read out in a packed theatre… and the sting of rejection that inevitably follows when your project doesn't land. It's all part of it.

I’ve spoken at schools, judged festivals, and developed film workshops for young creatives.

This blog isn’t here to tell you how it is. It’s here to share how it’s been — for me.

So read on. Learn something. Or at the very least, get yourself thinking.

Or don’t. It’s just one person’s opinion.
